How to Become a Home Inspector in Massachusetts

  • Degree.

    The state of Massachusetts requires a high school diploma or a GED.

  • 75 Hours of Training.

    Per the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Home Inspectors.

  • Pass the NHIE.

    You're required to take the National Home Inspectors Exam and to be a certified home inspector.

  • 25 Supervised Home Inspections.

    You need to conduct at least 25 fee-paid inspections.

  • Get Insurance.

    Massachusetts does not require you to carry general liability insurance but you need to obtain a minimum of $250,00 in E&O insurance.

  • 1 year of Associate Home Inspector Experience.

    You must work as an associate home inspector for no less than 1 year.

  • 100 Indirectly Supervised Inspections.

    After your 25 supervised inspections, you must conduct and complete 100 indirectly supervised inspections.
